I suspect tomorrow's XC forecast will be the deciding
factor but I'm keen to sail (as ever)

I'm erring towards Bamburgh as 9/10 times it's windier up
north. It will be me + Pete.

Who else is round? (well there's a few in the rotund club
)

MOB would be good, but where abouts in Bamburgh are you on about?

Have a look at Bamburgh beach first .With it being low tide the wind shadow will be less evident.Thats the first car park off the wynding .Hope to be there 11ish.Too much west in the wind will mean a descent from the golf course car park.

I'll be aiming for lunchtime, will look at Bamburgh first
then head up to the Gold Course if there's no one around.

Greg - the windings is the first left coming into
Bamburgh from the castle end, follow along for beach on
right and keep going to end of road for golf course. To
access the mouth, carry kit down the cliff to the beach
where most people rig up, alternatively rig on grass at
top and carry down.

Terry can you drop me a text if it's not worth bothering?
Looks like it's building so the afternoon might be better
and warmer ;-)

sorry greg did not see your posting.

had a good little session at bamburgh with terry and joe, 5.7m and 95litres cross shore and the odd rideable waves. 7.0-9.5 degrees pleasant, , first one of the year, and its march! bring it on. i just caught the tail end of it, terry said it was well windy on 5.3m when he first got there. more on the plane at the start and struggling by the end. the one handy thing with bamburgh at low tide is no wind shadow, the wind was W but veered WNW in the pm. very little walk and carry as opposed to mob, however more west would have been gustier at bamburgh and better at mob.

thanks lads for the texts.

greg, you may have been looking at a five hours plus round trip for the driving over to bamburgh,  there will be better days, the wind peaked at 1-2pm on xc and slowly died after that, by 4pm it had gone.

you would have been better off making the trip on a good all day W-NW-N F5-6 forecast.(and nothing on the west.) it was a marginalish forecast that may have been good, it was our luck it did.

it is a bit like allonby, a solid F4 sw forecast usually means F5 plus, mob bamburgh gets a funnelling effect so a F4 W-ish can be a F5 here and no where else. we do get some swell to coincide with it at times but, it is luck of the draw and generally if i know there is westerly wind blowing in newcastle by lunchtime then a quick look on xc weather and i can be there and sailing within an hour and half. it is not garanteed as allonby is but does have some great cross shore days, just hard to predict.

i would say wait till after easter when budle opens and then there is a choice of sailing the beach at low tide and the bay and mouth break at high tide.

c u on the water soon.
